A 17-year-old was arrested on Friday by the Norwegian Police Security Service (Politiets sikkerhetstjeneste – PST) after they uncovered plans to blow up NATO’s headquarters at Jåttå in Stavanger.
The 17-year-old, whom PST believes to have been radicalised and to have links to IS, has been remanded in custody for two weeks.
The remand order (fengslingskjennelsen), which was delivered on Friday afternoon, is exempt from public disclosure, the newspaper further writes. This means that the media may not publicly reproduce details from the order, other than the conclusion.
Joint Warfare Centre, which is located at Jåttå in Stavanger, was established in 2003 and is NATO’s headquarters in Norway.
On Friday the boy was brought before the District Court (tingretten) with a petition for remand in custody. This was justified by the risk of destruction of evidence, the prosecuting authority responsible, Line Nyvoll Nygaard of PST, informed NTB on Friday.
– He is charged with violation of section 131, third paragraph, cf. the provision’s first paragraph, of the Penal Code (straffeloven), which concerns preparation to commit a terrorist act, said Nygaard.
The 17-year-old’s defence counsel, Knut Lerum, told Sandnesposten on leaving the courtroom on Friday that his client does not acknowledge criminal guilt. The boy was escorted out through a back room after the court hearing.
