Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, says that Sweden is at war with the Islamic world by allowing the burning of the Quran. Khamenei demands that the perpetrators be extradited and says that the harshest punishment awaits them. According to Islam, this means the death penalty.

In 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against Salman Rushdie, a command to have Rushdie killed wherever he was found. Now, Khamenei is saying something similar about Sweden. Does he also mean that Swedes are responsible? It can be dangerous for Swedes both within and outside of Sweden.

In a series of Twitter posts, Khamenei demands that Sweden extradite those behind Thursday’s Quran burning incident in Stockholm to the legal system of Islamic countries. Khamenei is Iran’s spiritual leader.

He also asserts that Muslim scholars agree that whoever insults the Quran should be sentenced to the harshest punishment and further claims that the Swedish government has declared war on the Muslim world, “provoking anger and enmity” in all Muslim countries. (NTB)

Khamenei is not Iran’s spiritual leader. He is the Supreme Leader in all aspects because Iran is a theocracy.

Khamenei is also competing with both Erdogan and Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia to be the protector of faith. The theocratic regime is well aware that Sweden is not a theocracy, but it suits them to incite Muslims all over the world against Sweden, just as they do in Iraq, Pakistan, and Turkey.

It can be dangerous to be Swedish.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, who runs Iran Human Rights, points out that Iran now wants to punish Swedish citizens with the death penalty. He hopes that Sweden and the EU will stand up for freedom of expression.

Text 2: Iran is Shia Muslim. There is a danger that the two branches of Islam will compete to be the most devout, meaning vengeful on behalf of Allah. As known, many have paid with their lives in Iran for far lesser offenses than burning a Quran.
