British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly says Ukraine has the right to take the war to Russian territory. Cleverly says this on the same day that drones attacked Moscow. It is easy to interpret this as Cleverly giving the Ukrainians a blank mandate.

Legitimate right within one’s own borders, that’s clear. But Ukraine also has the right to show strength outside its own borders to undermine Russia’s ability to attack into Ukraine, Cleverly said at a press conference in Estonia, according to Sky News.

He added that “legitimate military targets” outside Ukraine’s borders are part of the country’s self-defence.

The Russians will perceive that Britain is giving Ukraine the right to attack Russian territory. American politicians have spoken out in the same way. Americans and British are being drawn into the war.
