As the days pass, the strategy of the Iranian regime becomes clearer. The holy men cannot hope to defeat the American-Israeli offensive, so their endeavour becomes to survive and remain standing in the hope of spreading so much war opposition within the American population that Trump’s Republicans suffer defeat in the midterm elections to the Senate and the House of Representatives on 3 November.
It would be frivolous to dismiss this strategy. The American government and military analysts such as the Fox News commentator, General Jack Keane, send out encouraging messages daily about Trump’s imminent victory: Hurrah, now we are winning. The problem is that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard continues to launch missiles against US-allied Arab states, most recently against Kuwait. From the Pentagon it is said that the United States has eliminated most of Iran’s missiles and drones, and that sounds good, if one neglects to state how many the mullahs had to begin with. The Americans continue bombing, and yet Allah’s men still manage to launch missiles against the United States’ allies and Israel.
Perhaps the Iranian madmen are in the process of running out of offensive weapons (which nothing indicates for the time being), but then they have more powerful weapons in the form of strong Western allies. This applies to most mainstream media, which rejoice in every American setback, and the United States Democratic Party, whose leaders daily maintain that Trump has no idea what he has got himself into, and who predict that the United States’ “illegal” war is lost. The President has, they say, led the United States into quicksand—in a war without end. They look forward to disseminating this message up to the midterm elections and are indifferent to the mullahs’ enriched uranium.
Tehran is now receiving assistance from unexpected quarters in the form of previously prominent Trump supporters who have turned their backs on him. This applies, among others, to the podcaster Megyn Kelly, who has a significant audience. A few months ago she mocked the weaklings who merely talked, but did nothing to thwart the mullahs’ plans. Now that Trump moves from words to action, she says that everyone has failed the President—naturally without explaining how she believes the civilised world should have prevented Tehran’s holy men from deluging Europe and later the United States with nuclear weapons. It is a mystery. How can a respected commentator have lost her senses in so short a time?
As mentioned, the opponents of Trump do not say what they would have done to prevent the mullahs from acquiring nuclear weapons. Before Trump, seven Democratic and Republican presidents said that the Iranian extremists should be prevented from getting their hands on these weapons of mass destruction, but now it appears that the media and the Democrats do not care.
Another weapon the mullahs may resort to is rising oil prices, which are a certain Democratic trump card. Trump promised cheaper petrol, and see what he has now burdened us with. It now costs more to fill the tank, and everything else has become more expensive. The mullahs have excellent intelligence on American conditions and therefore know that if there is anything that gets on Americans’ nerves, it is higher petrol prices and access to petrol. I experienced it in 1980 in Los Angeles, when I several times had to wait for hours to fill the tank. At that time I would have voted for anyone who could ensure that I could get to work from North Hollywood to 275 South Beverly Drive.
Trump has embarked upon a bold undertaking, but so too have the media and the Democrats. If the President succeeds in winning the war and removing Iran’s theocratic rule, the Democrats and their faithful media will face major problems of explanation in the time leading up to the midterm elections.
