One in six men aged 20–24 in Denmark who are descendants of immigrants from the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan or Turkey, has been convicted of a criminal offence between 2021 and 2025.
This is shown by figures on crime among young men of Muslim origin from the MENAPT countries, which the Danish Ministry of Justice has submitted to the Folketing, according to Ekstra Bladet.
Denmark’s Minister of Justice has reacted strongly to the Danish newspaper:
– This is extremely serious. Denmark is a country built on community and trust. And here we have certain individuals behaving like utter idiots and showing zero respect for our community.
– “I view this with the utmost seriousness,” says Minister of Justice Nicolai Wammen (S) to Ekstra Bladet in light of the figures.
Syria tops the rather unflattering statistics:
The worst figures are for descendants from Syria, where as many as 21.67 per cent of the group have been convicted during the period. For male Lebanese descendants, the figure is 21.55 per cent, and for Somalis in the group, 20.67 per cent.
This means that more than one in five young male descendants from these countries have been convicted of offences under the Criminal Code.
Mikkel Bjørn of the Danish People’s Party, commenting on what he calls ‘insane figures’, states that they point to a ‘time bomb under the Danes’ sense of security’ and that immigration from MENAPT countries must be restricted.
