In her speech to the national executive committee, Sylvi Listhaug says that the conclusions reached by Anders Magnus in his new book *The Dark Side of Immigration* show that the Progress Party has been right all along. Now the others are following suit.
– The picture he paints is bleak. He fears “a highly polarised society with major conflicts, perhaps even riots in the streets”. And he says we may have five years left. Five years. When one of NRK’s most experienced journalists says what the FrP has been saying for 30 years, it is no longer possible to dismiss it as right-wing populism, said Listhaug.
“The biggest cost isn’t measured in kroner and øre,” said Listhaug.
– It is the import of a medieval culture and values that have no place in Norway. Anders Magnus refers to this as a form of clan culture in his book, said Listhaug.
She wants to put the brakes on to prevent the immigration of people who cannot support themselves.
– That means putting the brakes on family reunification, asylum reception in third countries, a halt to permanent residence, an end to the lax granting of citizenship, stricter income requirements – and criminal foreigners, they must leave Norway.
That had a touch of the old Sylvi Listhaug about it.
– If you want to live according to clan culture, you’ll have to do so elsewhere. It is voluntary to be in Norway. But it is not voluntary to follow our laws, rules and values.
But will she be able to get the Conservative Party on board with such a course?
Listhaug said the national budget was a mere breeze.
– When Jens Stoltenberg presented the government’s draft national budget for next year, it was couched in grand terms. ‘The biggest cut in income tax in over 20 years.’ We were given the impression that it was finally ordinary people’s turn. But then the truth came to light: the tax hoax of the century, said Listhaug.
She argued that this budget will leave many families and businesses in Norway worse off financially by 2027.
– Once again, Støre is protecting the public purse rather than helping ordinary people. I can promise that the Progress Party will do the opposite,” said Listhaug.
“And dear national executive committee, it is not families who should be tightening their belts. It is the state.
