The suspected 21-year-old terrorist, Abdul Ballout, who drove into a crowd during a Pride celebration, has now been shot dead. Police have confirmed this.

The police operation took place in an allotment garden area in the Spandau district. German media report that shots were fired when special forces moved in. The precise circumstances are not yet known.

Ballout was suspected of having driven a van into a crowd near Tiergarten during the Pride celebrations on Saturday evening. One woman was killed and 29 people were injured.

Germany’s Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt, has described the incident as an Islamist terrorist attack. Ballout was known to the authorities as part of the Islamist milieu in Berlin.
