– I think it is so grotesque that it is difficult to put into words. What on earth do these know-it-all climate fanatics actually think they are doing?, said Malte Larsen from the Danish People’s Party.
EU countries are punishing the elderly with an insane meat restriction of only 80 grams per week because they have “ruined” the climate, writes Anthony Blair in the New York Post.
A politician and “eco warrior” has sparked uproar in Denmark after she defended guidelines limiting residents in state nursing homes to only 80 grams of beef per week. This is less than one Big Mac, Blair writes.
Birgitte Kehler Holst from the Danish Green party Alternativet was also accused of saying that elderly people in nursing homes should be “punished” by limiting their meat intake during a meeting of Copenhagen City Council on 30 April.
This despite the fact that “Ældre” (The Elderly) stands at the top of their party programme, ahead of “Recognise Palestine” and “Asylum and Integration”.
Holst spoke against plans to exempt nursing homes from the guidelines in the Danish capital, which limit meals in public institutions to only 80 grams of beef, lamb or veal per week.
That is less than the amount of beef in a standard McDonald’s Big Mac, which contains two beef patties of 45 grams each, a total of 90 grams, writes the astonished American journalist once again.
– Everyone, including the elderly, must contribute to achieving our climate goals, Holst said at the city council meeting, adding: – It is precisely that generation which has “messed things up” the most.
Kehler Holst’s comments triggered outrage in Denmark, and many accused her of trying to punish the elderly and force through a vegetarian agenda.
Malte Larsen from the Danish People’s Party shared a picture of the daily beef ration in his hand to show how small it was. He wrote on X:
11.4 grams of beef. That is how much residents in nursing homes in the Municipality of Copenhagen are allowed to eat per day, in order not to exceed the weekly limit of 80 grams.
According to a politician from Alternativet, this is because our elderly have been the greatest climate sinners throughout their lives. And therefore they are to be punished. So that they receive only enough beef for half a meatball a day.

Malte Larsen continued:
I think it is so grotesque that it is difficult to put into words. What on earth do these know-it-all climate fanatics actually think they are doing?
Our elderly have toiled and struggled their entire lives. They have created a fantastic society for all of us. And now they are being punished with draconian beef rations in the holy name of the climate.
I think it is undignified. Shameful. And completely unacceptable.
Because no, we are not saving the whole world by having our elderly eat only 11.4 grams of beef a day. Denmark accounts for 0.1% of the world’s man-made CO2 emissions.
Larsen writes that the worst thing about it all is the enormous hypocrisy among many of these climate fanatics. They introduce strict climate measures, but have no problem flying back and forth to participate in meaningless climate conferences.
Mona Juul from the Conservative People’s Party also criticised the measure for punishing the elderly. She shared her thoughts on Facebook.
Holst tells the Danish newspaper B.T. that she is sorry and made a somewhat too hasty comment from the podium, and she apologises for that. Nevertheless, she stands by her point, B.T. writes: that the elderly in nursing homes must also be covered by the municipality’s strategy for climate-friendly meals.
The average American eats between 59 and 83 pounds of beef annually, or between 1 and 1.6 pounds per week, Anthony Blair writes in conclusion. – That amounts to more than six times as much as the guidelines in Danish nursing homes.
There are hundreds of comments about the matter on X, but a picture often says more than a thousand words. Gene Valentino commented under the NYP article on X:
– Liberal “compassion” strikes again. The Left has always been about losers manipulating the authorities in order to hoard resources they are unable to obtain through their own competence. A bureaucratic and barbaric culture.
