The extraordinary Council of State at the Royal Palace (Statsrådet på Slottet) on Wednesday was due to the fact that Støre put his foot in it seriously (tråkket alvorlig i baret) when he convened a Nordic summit with Canada’s Mark Carney and signalled that an expanded Nordic region would pursue its own course in security policy. The High North (Nordområdene) was highlighted. This came at the same time as Trump stood in Washington and called for support from allies.
Støre, Frederiksen, Kristersson and the Finnish Prime Minister said the opposite: This is not their war.
This provoked Washington so strongly that Secretary General Mark Rutte was dispatched on a special mission to Oslo to tell Støre where David bought the beer (hvor David kjøpte ølet).
It was possible to envisage that the Nordic countries/Canada were preparing initiatives in the north that would thwart Trump’s advance towards Greenland.
It could be perceived as a stab in the back.
Through his conduct, Støre has played far above Norway’s division. Normally this would not trigger irritation, but during a war different rules apply.
Støre has demonstratively marked distance from Trump both with regard to Gaza, Venezuela and now Iran.
When he convened a summit in Oslo together with Mark Carney, who has oriented himself in the direction of China, it overflowed for the State Department and the White House.
That was what the extraordinary Council of State on Wednesday afternoon was about, according to Document’s sources.
It sounds plausible. Støre laid the egg in full public view (la egget for åpen scene).
