Pro-Palestinian protesters chose Monday to demonstrate against Israel and the IDF, outside the Jewish school in Stockholm.
The 250 students at Hillelskolan in Östermalm, Stockholm, were greeted on Monday afternoon by an anti-Israel demonstration, Palestinian flags and the message “All children are equal”. The protesters’ banner also claimed that IDF soldiers are war criminals.
The initiative is now being heavily criticised on social media.
“I have no words for how disgusting these people are,” writes one person who claims to be a parent of children attending the school.”Can anyone tell me how healthy it is to stand outside a school?” asks another. A third notes that the limit has been reached and “right now, anyone who is not pro-Palestinian is a right-wing extremist”.
In one post, a person with a Persian background recalls the time before the revolution in Iran and writes:
”In Iran, before the Islamic Revolution, Islamists and revolutionary communists used to attack (among other things) American schools. So strong was the xenophobia and xenophobia that they did not care that they were targeting civilians, teachers, women, youth and children. The Yankees were ‘evil’ and they were just ‘getting out. The difference here is that the Jewish children are not even foreigners but born here, with parents who were also born here. You realise that when your country, on any level, resembles Iran before 1978-1979, you have a problem.”
The protesters were reportedly confronted by angry passers-by, who asked them why they had chosen to stand outside a Jewish school. One of the demonstrating women is said to have replied that “they should be happy that they have a school”.
According to the Stockholm Police Authority, the demonstration lacked a permit. A notification of unauthorised assembly has been drawn up according to routine.
